Trip to Chevron

As part of our "Chodesh Tefilla" program, we went on an exciting tour of Chevron this week, led by the well-known Simcha Hochbaum, Chevron's Director of Tourism. He brought the story of Chevron alive, from its ancient Biblical roots as one of the cities inhabited by our Forefathers, to its current inhabitants' impassioned struggles to maintain a foothold in this holy but hotly contested city. The highlight of the trip was the visit to Ma'arat HaMachpela (the Cave of the Patriarchs), the second holiest site after the Kotel because it is where Avraham, Sarah, Yitzchak, Rivka, Yaakov, and Leah are all buried. Many of our students will be spending Shabbat in Chevron this weekend along with others from all over the country. Lindsay Frucher said, "I felt a connection to our history and the trip helped link me to the past. It was really inspiring that I was able to go to the place where our avot walked. Each place they walked, we walked too. I also enjoyed davening at the place where they were buried."
